Chapter One — An Institution Opens Its Books

The Prospectus of a Working Academy

TBX Academy Ltd is a computer systems design practice and a teaching institution at one and the same time, and this website reads like the opening of a prospectus rather than a sales brochure. From the admissions desk at 165 High Street, Harborne, Birmingham - B17 9QE, United Kingdom (GB), our tutors and engineers write, assemble and post the documents that turn an enquiry into a place on a course. Every operating system we design for a client, and every enrolment packet we seal for a student, follows the same three movements that give this company its shape: enrol, teach, graduate. The work is technical and the work is human. On any given week our engineers map integration requirements for a manufacturing client in the Midlands while our admissions team reviews scholarship files and posts course brochures to applicants across the United Kingdom. The two halves of the house sit in the same corridors, and the discipline of one feeds the professionalism of the other. A placement test window is scheduled with the same care as a system cutover. An open day register is kept with the same accuracy as a data migration log. That is what integrated systems design means when it is practised by people who also teach.

This opening chapter sets out who we are, how we work and what a newcomer should expect. The chapters that follow describe the six admissions services we run from Harborne, the process that governs each of them and the way a prospective student or a corporate client can begin a conversation with us. If you have arrived here looking for a partner in computer integrated systems design, or for a place on a course that treats professional practice as seriously as it treats theory, you have found the right desk.

Six chapters make up the working body of the academy. Each is a service in its own right, and each is written here as a chapter rather than a product tile, because we want the reader to understand the purpose before the package.

Chapter — Enrolment

Enrolment Packet Desks

Our enrolment packet desks assemble the full joining bundle for each intake: the offer letter, the course outline, the timetable and the welcome note from the tutor who will lead the first term. Packets are checked twice at the Harborne admissions desk before they leave the building, so that a student receives one complete envelope and not a trail of separate emails.

T

Chapter — Register

Open Day Registers

Every open day is recorded in a register that captures attendance, the sessions each visitor joined and the questions they asked. The register is not a marketing mailing list; it is a working record that our tutors read before the next event so that the programme improves instead of repeating itself.

B

Chapter — Brochure

Course Brochure Runs

We print and post course brochures in defined runs, each addressed and logged, so that a prospective student holds a printed description of the course before making any commitment. The brochure run is the point at which the design of a course, the words that describe it and the person who will teach it are brought into agreement.

X

Chapter — Scholarship

Scholarship File Reviews

Scholarship applications are read by two reviewers who work independently and then compare notes, a method borrowed from our systems design reviews. The file review considers evidence, circumstance and readiness for the course, and it is documented so that an applicant can be given a clear reason for the decision.

A

Chapter — Assessment

Placement Test Windows

Placement tests are held in fixed windows so that every candidate sits under the same conditions and receives the same information. The window, the invigilation and the marking rubric are published in advance, and the result is shared with the candidate together with a recommendation on which course level to begin.

E

Chapter — Alumni

Alumni Letter Rounds

Twice a year we write to former students with news of the academy, invitations to return as speakers and requests for the kind of honest feedback that only a graduate can give. The alumni letter round keeps the institution honest and keeps our teaching connected to the careers our graduates actually build.

Why an Academy Also Designs Systems

Computer integrated systems design and professional teaching share a common grammar. Both require a clear statement of requirements, a design that can be inspected by others, a disciplined build and a review that asks whether the thing works in the hands of the person who uses it. We have organised TBX Academy Ltd around that shared grammar. Our integration projects for clients in professional, scientific and technical services are run by the same staff who design our courses, and our courses are written by people who have delivered real systems into real organisations. The result is a company that can speak to a procurement team in the morning and to a first-term student in the afternoon without changing its voice.

The Harborne desk is the physical heart of the academy. It is where enrolment packets are assembled, where open day registers are completed and where scholarship files are read. It is also where a client can sit down with an engineer and trace an integration plan across a table. We believe that a professional services firm should be a place you can visit, and that an educational institution should be a place that keeps records worth trusting. Both beliefs are written into the services described above and into the way we protect the information that students and clients entrust to us.
